"A younger generation of St Louis rock and roll is upon us and the new energy and sound of The Slow Boys is decisive proof. Drawing sensibilities from the new millennial western clean punk, nineties thick slow moving rock, eighties new wave and classic americana themes, this three piece condenses their sound into a jukebox setting of songs that hit home while elevating a new sound characteristic of a young, unforgiving angst. These two EPs are constantly varying in sound and while some elements remain steady, we are mostly looking at a rollercoaster that manages to remain consistent due to a je-ne-sais-quoi that permeates the whole track-list and makes uniformly "Slow Boys.

The first out of the two EPs "Bird Teeth" seems to maintain an ongoing theme of clean guitars that jangle through modulation carried forward by bass lines that break the static whenever appropriate. The defined bounce of "taking christmas lights" and the joyous chorus of "big ship" come to mind. These are contrasted by some of the more outside cuts, such as the melancholy "ice cream sandwich" with its infectious guitar melody, or the heavy but lighthearted "prism". "The Slow Boys Ride Again" switches gears once again with western-themed intro "jericho" followed by the center-piece and longest track "the bible." The contrast in sound The Slow Boys present is very well represented by the transition between "woah not now" and "night sweats", from wild wild western dream to Seattle nightmare. The record is concluded with two of the heavier cuts, most notably the explosive closer track hurrah, "muppet's treasure island", which burns into your mind like an image flashed on a wall.

The Slow Boys might be young, but they are churning out consistent high quality songs crafted with a beautiful combination of awareness and ingenuity. They seem to be just in for the ride, but I can tell they'll surely ride again".
